Theory and data show that countries that do not capitalize on the full potential of one half of their societies are misallocating their human resources and undermining their competitive potential. Similarly, it has been shown that companies that promote women’s leadership boost their bottomline, reaping the full benefits of their entire human resource pool.
Empowering women is clearly a profound economic, business and social issue.
The Women Leaders Programme convenes global leaders from governments, business and civil society to discuss approaches to mainstream the efforts towards women’s empowerment and to ensure that closing the gender gap is on the national and global agendas.
Using The Global Gender Gap Report as a benchmarking tool, the Women Leaders Programme promotes the exchange of best practices for women’s empowerment between the institutions (public and private) in high-ranking and low-ranking countries.
The Report's Gender Gap index serves a dual purpose:
-
it works as a benchmark to identify existing strengths and weaknesses for individual countries
-
serves as a useful guide for policy by promoting best practice exchange between countries.
