West-Islamic World Dialogue

Council of 100 Leaders (C-100)
Promoting dialogue and cooperation between the Western and Islamic worlds

The Issue
Heightened tension between the West and the Islamic world stands in the way of true collaboration and mutual understanding.

The C-100 is a community of business, political, religious, media and opinion leaders that promotes dialogue and understanding across different segments of society in the West and Muslim world.

The Opportunity
The C-100 is a multistakeholder community that provides a unique platform to:

- Act proactively as a global citizen in promoting harmony, mutual respect and shared values
- Improve knowledge and understanding across cultures and civilizations
- Gain new insights into the opinions of peers and global leaders involved in West–Islam dialogue

Who is involved?

  • Participate in the discourse among members of a network of influential leaders with eminent knowledge

What has the C-100 achieved?
Since its creation in 2004, the C-100 has:

  • Built a solid community of leaders from diverse backgrounds who are committed to its mission
  • Launched the C-100 award for individuals with a notable contribution to dialogue and understanding
  • Connected significant projects with donors to mobilize funding.

Recent projects include:
– Internet-based university links - Soliya
– Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow - ASMA Society
– Religious Leaders Study Exchange - World Faith Development Dialogue
– Media outreach training, Common Ground News Service and reality television - Search for Common Ground

Two groundbreaking projects are currently underway:

  • Providing an annual global assessment of the state of West–Islamic dialogue
  • Supporting educational work that advances good citizenship and intercultural and interfaith awareness with particular impact on
    West–Islam relations

Workstreams
As genuine dialogue must inform any cooperative action and cooperative action is vital for broader impact on societies, the C-100 pursues its objectives through two workstreams:

1. Sustaining In-depth Dialogue and Discourse
Starting from a base of joint analysis, the C-100 facilitates dialoguebetween its members, punctuated by intensive discussions at its meetings, while engaging the foremost political and thought leaders. These dialogues bond C-100 members into a community and provide
the basis upon which they choose to engage in activities in the public arena.

2. Leveraging Global Cooperative Action
The C-100 provides a platform to conceive, support and realize projects that benefit from exposure to the Forum’s unique network. At present, two flagship activities are planned with regard to informing global efforts of dialogue and launching a project on education and citizenship.
