Imani Duncan-Price
-
Senator of Jamaica
Senate of Jamaica
Imani’s penchant for social contributions flourished at Harvard in co-founding the NGO ‘Global Justice’ to fight the global AIDS crisis through its Student Global AIDS Campaign (SGAC) and formulating a World Bank policy guide, ‘Jamaica: Gender and Economic Development’. This was a natural segue after her year as Miss Jamaica World where she focused on sustainable environmental practices and violence reduction in schools. Imani’s subsequent formation of a research team to analyze the root causes of violence in Kingston communities led to “Arrested Development: The Political Origins and Socio-Economic Foundations of Common Violence in Jamaica” which is now a working paper at the Brooks World Poverty Institute, University of Manchester. She also co-founded the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CaPRI) as well as the Youth Upliftment Through Employment (Y.U.T.E.) programme. A strong advocate for gender equality and “women’s leadership in politics and decisionmaking”, Imani is currently a Government Senator and Group Chief Strategy at JMMB Group (Caribbean financial services institution), as well as a wife and mother of two young children.
